My six year old son has baby molars that have broken off because of decay. We're going to have to extract them. Is there anything I should be aware of?

Mona,
Yes. I'm glad you're getting information ahead of time. You'll want to be sure your dentist puts space maintainers in after the molars are extracted. At around six years old, his permanent first molars are about to come in behind his premolars. If you don't save that space they will drift forward and block out his permanent pre-molars.You might also be interested in looking at our Dental Tips for Parents page.
